Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (December 15, 1832 – December 27, 1923; in IPA, in English was a French engineer and architect and a specialist of metallic structures. He is famous for designing the Eiffel Tower, built 1887-1889 for the 1889 Universal Exposition in Paris, France, and the armature for the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor, USA
