Happy Birthday Rudyard Kipling

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

happy birthday mary tyler moore

ok....everyone sing along
then throw your hat up in the air!

Who can turn the world on with her smile?

Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have a town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're gonna make it after all

How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, girl this time you're all alone
But it's time you started living
It's time you let someone else do some giving

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have a town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're gonna make it after all

How to make love stay

Thought i would quote my favorite author, Tom Robbins today. This is from Still Life With Woodpecker.

"Who knows how to make love stay?

Tell love you are going to the Junior's Deli on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn to pick up a cheesecake, and if love stays, it can have half. It will stay.

Tell love you want a momento of it and obtain a lock of its hair. Burn the hair in a dime-store incense burner with yin/yang symbols on three sides. Face southwest. Talk fast over the burning hair in a convincingly exotic language. Remove the ashes of the burnt hair and use them to paint a mustache on your face. Find love. Tell it you are someone new. It will stay.

Wake love up in the middle of the night. Tell it the world is on fire. Dash to the bedroom window and pee out of it. Casually return to bed and assure love that everything is going to be all right. Fall asleep. Love will be there in the morning.

happy birthday frank zappa

December 21, 1940 - December 4, 1993

"A composer is a guy who goes around forcing his will on unsuspecting air molecules, often with the assistance of unsuspecting musicians."
- Frank Zappa

I have a thing for Frank Zappa. His words, his opinions and his get in your face don't mess with my rights attitude....what a guy! Not only was he a great musician, but he was SMART..... a genius. How often does that happen these days?

We were both born in the same hospital and he passed away on my birthday. I took it personal.
Today when you are flossing, think of Frank.

Happy Birthday Jane Austen

December 16, 1775 - July 18, 1817

Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously.
A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves; vanity, to what we would have others think of us.

Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Etching of St. Juan Diego by Jose Guadalupe Posada

The Virgin of Guadalupe is one of my most favorite Mexican icons. After living so close to the Mexican border for so long, it is hard not to associate this image with more than just the Catholic belief. It is the symbol of Mexican culture and ancient civilizations that lived there long before the rise of christianity.
The Wikipedia article explains it so much better than i ever could.

From Wikipedia :
"The Virgin of Guadalupe has also symbolized the Mexican nation since Mexico's War of Independence. Both Miguel Hidalgo and Emiliano Zapata's armies traveled underneath Guadalupan flags, and the Virgin is generally recognized as a symbol of all Mexicans. The Mexican novelist Carlos Fuentes once said that "...one may no longer consider himself a Christian, but you cannot truly be considered a Mexican unless you believe in the Virgin of Guadalupe"

happy 50th birthday princess calamari

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are

Anything your heart desire
Will come to you.

If your heart is in your dream,
No request is too extreme.

When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

Fate is kind...
She brings to those who love

The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through

When you wish upon a star
...Your dreams come true...

happy sunday!

You're out of the woods, You're out of the dark, You're out of the night.
Step into the sun, Step into the light.
Keep straight ahead for the most glorious place
On the Face of the Earth or the sky.
Hold onto your breath, Hold onto your heart, Hold onto your hope.
March up to the gate
'and bid it open

open...open...
