Happy Birthday Albert Schweitzer

January 14, 1875 - September 4, 1965

From Wikipedia
"Respect for life, resulting from contemplation on one's own conscious will to live, leads the individual to live in the service of other people and of every living creature. Schweitzer was much respected for putting his theory into practice in his own life. He was, for instance, a well-known cat lover, who, although left-handed, would write with his right hand rather than disturb the cat who would sleep on his left arm."

gnomes for peace

Gnomes for Peace is a non-profit organization started by the Gnome Elders in hopes that soon humans stop fighting and just learn to be nice to one another. You can donate to Gnomes for Peace by leaving cake morsels out in the garden for the gnomes, elves and fairies that work so hard to help us save the planet. You can also help by calling your US congressmen to stop funding for the surge in the war in Iraq.

It is NOT his decision!

George Bush announced his intention to escalate the war in Iraq by sending tens of thousands of more troops to pursue his flawed strategy. But if he wants to ignore the advice of the military and the findings of the Iraq Study Group, he's going to have to make his case and get the consent of the people through their elected representatives.

Thankfully, escalation is not President Bush's decision to make. He must have the people's consent.

Senator Kennedy has introduced legislation that makes the issue plain. It states that any substantial new commitment in Iraq requires a plan from the administration and explicit authorization from Congress.

Iraq has become George Bush's Vietnam, and it's up to every American to ensure that history doesn't repeat itself any longer. The Iraqi people need to take responsibility for their own future. But our only hope for change over there is if we, the American people, take control of our own destiny here at home.

Add your name to the petition in support of Senator Kennedy's legislation:

Artists for Peace

Dear Mr Bush,

If you want to increase the troops over in Iraq then send your daughters, send your wife, send your vice-president and his daughter. Please send Karl Rove, Bill O'Reilly, all the clowns on FOX NEWS, Pat Robertson, John Mc Cain...etc. etc. etc.......
Send your yes-men who don't have the cajones to stand up to your insanity.

Oh...you should go too!

Happy Little Christmas!

Growing up in an Italian family we had a tradition of putting our shoes out in the kitchen on the night of January 5th. La Befana would come and fill them with candies, coins and small trinkets. I still put my shoes out for her each year! Happy Little Christmas.

La Befana is a character in Italian folklore, similar to Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus. The character may have originated in Rome, then spread as a tradition to peninsular Italy.

Her name derives from the festival of Epiphany, and she visits all the children of Italy on the eve of 6 January to fill their socks with candy if they are good or a lump of coal if they are bad. Being a good housekeeper, many say she will sweep the floor before she leaves. The child's family typically leaves a small glass of wine and a plate with a few morsels of food, often regional or local, for Befana.

A MUST TO SEE!

I have been boycotting the news as much as possible. I did come across this while surfing the net and felt it was so riveting that i HAD to put it on this blog. Once again Keith Olbermann has the guts to say it like it is. Wow... what a guy. Too bad the rest of the cowards on the news can not step up and do that!

From Crooks and Liars
"Keith Olbermann stepped up and slapped Bush's plan to use the word "sacrifice" as an excuse to send more troops to Iraq. Bush needs a new catch phrase to try and deceive the nation with, but Republican talking points won't work on the people anymore. They are fed up with Bush and this war and sending more troops to die is not an answer. John McCain and Lieberman will now wear the McCain Doctrine around their necks—as Bill Kristol drools with glee as he'll finally get his wish."
